As we celebrate Resurrection Sunday, Pastor Shawn explains how Jesus, who justly delivers the curse of sin upon humanity, also amazingly submits himself to death on a cross in order to bear that very same curse on behalf of his people.
In Numbers 21, the people of Israel, suffering under the curse of serpents, were commanded to look upon a bronze serpet lifted up on a pole in order that their curse might be removed. This Old Testament type-and-shadow points toward the reality, elucidated in John 3, that Christ was to be lifted up on the cross, and was to become the very curse of sin on behalf of his people, in order that all who look upon him in penitent faith might be delivered from the curse.
